Convention Chairman Dave Greim and the Sonsfest2026 planning team recently toured our venue —

The Legacy Hotel in Mission Valley, San Diego.

We can't wait to see this 500 seat theatre filled with Sons of the Desert on June 23, 2026.  A great view from every seat!  And live organ accompaniment by Russ Peck!  

 

In addition to convention attendees, our big movie night is open to the public for only $20.  Invite your friends!

Here are Dave Greim & David Webb posing for scale next to the giant video globe.  This hall will be the scene of our big banquet hosted by GS Rick Greene and the Way Out West Tent, featuring live music by Dean Mora & His Orchestra, and some special surprises!

Our meticulous research included lunch at Theresa's Italian Steakhouse, the hotel restaurant.  Everyone loved the spaghetti and meatballs.  Theresa's also serves breakfast and dinner, plus there is a full bar next door.

Saps at Sea, the San Diego Laurel and Hardy group, presents:

End of Year Film Fun!

 

Saturday December 6 from 5:00 to 8:30 pm (Doors open 4:30) at:

First Lutheran Church, 867 S Lincoln Ave, El Cajon, CA 92020

 

Donation is $10 per person and includes refreshments. FREE for Kids 12 and under.

 

Ahoy all Saps!  Join us as we close out our 47th year!

 

We'll start with a cartoon, "Ain't We Got Fun" (1937).  Next is "There Ain't No Santa Claus" (1926).  Charlie Chase wants a pricey watch for his wife, but his landlord wants the rent!  We hope your holiday preparations go much smoother...

 

In "Come Clean" (1928), Stan and Ollie buy ice cream from Charlie Hall, then wind up bringing home Mae Busch!

 

"Big Business" is a long-time Saps favorite, especially when the music is provided by our own Russ Peck!  The Boys try to sell a Christmas tree to James Finlayson...

 

 

After intermission, we'll show "Pirate Party on Catalina Isle" (1935), a stunning technicolor musical short. 

 

Next is "Any Old Port!"(1932).  Featuring "Battling Laurel" in the boxing ring with much bigger opponent Walter Long!

 

"Jackie Cooper's Christmas Party" (1931) is a fun look at MGM studios during their Golden Age.  Many Our Gang stars are party guests!

 

Our finale is Laurel and Hardy in "This is Your Life" (1954).  Stan and Ollie are surprised by Ralph Edwards...  This is the only time our favorite duo appeared on live TV.
